Quick Update & Thankful November

Image
Quick sum of things since my last post:  - birthday party was so much fun, and the photos turned out beautifully!  - I finished my Bebo Mia Exam & first doula birth (videos to come!) - Halloween has come & gone another year: (The Cat & The Fiddle and The Cow that Jumped over the Moon) -  we have been trying to conceive (with no cycles or luck so far) for a while now... - and I updated the website again (with a new url - the host site changed it, what a pain!), with new pricing, scheduling and layout at  http://thepregnantdoula.wixsite.com/doula   ~ Now suddenly, it's November again! A few of my American friends do something to be thankful for every day of November, I think until their Thanksgiving (ours was in October, of course). I have always thought that it was important to be thankful for something every single day, even if it is something trivial or a basic need for survival, we are always luc...

9 Month Photoshoot, New Intro, Family Cloth & GIVEAWAY!

Image
Hey all! Mini update here for you. We did a family photoshoot with NM Photography here in Summerland, BC (though I believe she is from Penticton, BC) for Evie's 9 month photos and it was AMAZING! She got some wonderful shots of my sweet babies and I couldn't be happier. Here is my NEW INTRO for my Youtube videos with her photos:   Also new in my life is FAMILY CLOTH. If you haven't heard of this crunchy "new fad", it's the practice of using washable & reusable cloths for your bathroom needs - fits well with my cloth diapering, I would say! I recently decided to try them out, and with my good friend at The Sewing Kraut hooked me up with some awesome cloth for my behind!   To celebrate this, and make it a little fun, we decided to do a GIVEAWAY along with a 2 week "Family Cloth Experiment" to update you guys on how I'm liking Family Cloth so far. Consolidating Blogs, a New Website, Lack of Videos and Doula Career Update!

Image
Hi all!! So this is just a quick update to keep you all on the same page as far as my blogs/websites/Youtube/career goes, I've been changing around a lot of things and am waaaaaaay behind on keeping you all updated, so here it all is: Consolidating Blogs I have decided that 3 separate blogs was just too hard to maintain, I'd often think of posting and then realize I should update ___ blog first, so I would just never get around to posting at all. That doesn't work for me (or you guys)! So, Blogger has this nifty feature where you can export all existing posts and upload them to a different blog, so that's what I did. All blog posts from thenovicedoula.blogspot.ca and themarrieddoula.blogspot.ca have been moved to this blog, this means some posts will have broken links or may reference this blog as something different from where it was originally posted - please feel free to ask me to edit them if it really bothers you, or just scroll on past if the info i...

Getting You All Caught Up (Last Weeks of Pregnancy) ~ Oops!

Image
So, it's come to my attention that I haven't updated this blog at all since 35 weeks pregnant, and my baby is now almost 6 months old. Soooo yeah, that happened. I'm so sorry!! Quite honestly I wouldn't even blame it on having two kids, because I have had a decent amount of time to work on videos, etc, I simply forgot about my blog as I've been working so hard to build up my Youtube channel. I'm so sorry about that, so here is a fast recap of everything you've missed: Ultrasounds and Low Fluid Scares So, backing way up, there had been concerns with my fundal height since around 28-30 weeks. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but enough to keep an eye on it, so at  28 weeks it was 28cm (perfect), but at 32 weeks it was 30cm (a little low), and at 34 weeks STILL 30cm so that was cause for concern (even though I was gaining weight, the fundal height seemed not be be moving up as it should along with it), so my midwives ordered an ultrasound to ...

33 Weeks - Homebirth Prep/Supply List

Hi and welcome to The Pregnant Doula blog, where I apparently only post when I need to include a document in my videos ;) I am 33 weeks and 3 days today, which means I am nearly in panic mode to get everything ready for little Evelyn's birth. I have yet to complete my hospital bag, labour classes or really emotionally prepare for labour, but I have finally pretty much completed our homebirth preparations so that's something! A video will be going up on my channel today showing all of these items and I talk about the cost, reasons and safety of homebirth, see that video here: In the mean time, here is a physical list (mostly from the handout from our midwives) of the supplies I have rounded up for our planned home water birth: {Medical Supplies} 10 blue (puppy pee) pads 5 sterile gauze sponges Depends underwear Maxi pads Always Infinity Overnights & Regular flow (will last through recovery) peri bottle 2 large garbage bags 2 plastic sheets/shower curtains h...

A Brief Update!

Image
Of course, I have taken forever, yet again, to update!  As you can expect, lots has happened in the past several months, including.... Seeing Our Baby for the First Time... Again at 19 Weeks.... Finding Out She Is a She... Revealing Her Name... Practicing for Tandem Nursing... ... And Getting Married (at 30 Weeks Pregnant)!! I am now 31 weeks pregnant and gearing up for the birth of our little girl - a planned home water birth! I am almost prepared, supply-wise, and am getting ready to prepare emotionally for the beautiful marathon that is giving life. As I again approach this huge undertaking of love, I expect I'll have a lot of emotions that will relate to my doula journey, so I hope to update here more in the coming weeks. In the mean time, please enjoy my Youtube videos, including my Birth "Wishes": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvHeuROAta4 Also can be found on my Pregnant Doula blog: http://thepregnantdoula.blogspot.ca/2015/06/28-weeks-my-birth-plan.html And my rel...

28 Weeks - My Birth Plan

Of course, I haven't written in FOREVER! I am 28 weeks and 5 days today, and can't believe the time is already here - I've hit the 3rd trimester, and that means birth preparations! In other words, my Birth Plan . ~ Watch the video that goes along with this blog post here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvHeuROAta4 ~ I had a birth plan with my son, which I am very grateful for as I did end up having a hospital birth and I feel that my Birth Wishes helped my birth team be all on the same page and support me in the way that I needed. I absolutely needed to do another birth plan with this baby, as a few things have changed (including having a partner present this time), and being more knowledgeable on how I personally cope with birth & the usual practices at the hospital required some tweaking to make my birth plan as accurate as possible. 28 weeks is a great time to start thinking about your birth plan, as well as beginning putting together your hospital bag (wheth...

19 weeks - Ultrasound & Gender Reveal TOMORROW!!

Image
I am apparently horrible at blogging - between journaling to the baby, updating Facebook, filming/editing/putting up videos, and trying to update my 3 blogs, all while caring for a crazy 19 month old and a growing belly, my days are long and busy!! I am 19 weeks 1 day today, and let me just say, it's been a great week <3 One think I've been loving this week is a new photo editing app, PicLab, where these beautiful babies were made: And waiting in anxious anticipation for our anatomy scan, which was on Wednesday, March 25th. The things I felt most while waiting for this scan have been: 1) I can't believe it's here already, I remember beginning to plan the gender reveal and putting in the requisition for the scan, and now it's here! I feel like my entire pregnancy (and even before) I have been waiting for this stage of pregnancy, 17 weeks and beyond, where I begin to feel movement, my fiance could feel movement, we see the baby (so much bigger than at o...

Introduction! Finding Out...

Image
Hello! Welcome to my new blog ~ The Pregnant Doula! Okay, so I'm not a doula yet. I'm a "novice" doula - a doula in training. In fact, I started a blog titled The Novice Doula in October, 2014, chronicalling my journey to becoming a positive birth support for labouring mothers. You can find it at www.thenovicedoula.blogspot.ca Unfortunately I had to take a little break from my doula journey, as we moved in November, 2014, and just as we were settling into our new home in December, we got a big surprise (which you've probably guessed by now)... We're pregnant!! A little backstory: I had our son in August 2013, and absolutely loved my pregnancy/birth with him. I always felt so beautiful, so natural, so connected to him, so empowered.    I went to 41 weeks, 1 day with him, and had a beautiful, perfect, drug free natural birth in hospital, an experience I wouldn't change for the world (you can read about it in my October 13th and...
